• Fine dining, great views

  Situated right on the sea front at Cleethorpes, with views of the Humber estuary from the windows that run along one side of the dining room, The Kingsway Hotel is family-owned (not my family!)and offers arguably the best eating in the area. And it's dining in style, too. Silver service, crisp table linens, classic food, quality ingredients - often local, generous portions, an okay wine list. Prices are in the £5-£8 for a starter, £15-£23 (for a large Dover sole) for a main (including more yummy vegetables than you could possibly ever manage - at least two different types of potato, and three or four other veg), and £6 for pudding or cheese. People still tend to dress up to go here, too, and you get a mix of couples of all ages, family parties and groups.Other things to note: it's definitely a place for grown ups - or teenagers for a special occasion (I started going there for birthday treats when I was about 13, and still go whenever I'm visiting home).The dining room is non-smoking and (even better) mobile 'phone free. For those of us who are slaves to the devil nicotine, one of the lounge bars does allow smoking and you can have your after-dinner coffee (Lincoln & Yorks, very good, and accompanied by Elizabeth Shaw mints) through there.I've been lucky enough to eat in many fine restaurants around the world, including the Michelin starred variety, and I always think that I eat as well at the Kingsway as I've eaten anywhere.To give you a better idea, they post their menus on their website at:http://www.kingsway-hotel.com/I can't report on the other services of the hotel (my parents' house is only a couple of miles away, so no need to stay), but if you're ever in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area, I strongly recommend the Kingsway Hotel for dinner on Saturday night or lunch on Sunday.
